In 1981, the higher education system in Turkey was extensively restructured according to the new Higher Education Law No. 2547. Thus, all higher education institutions were linked to the Higher Education Council ( YÖK ) and the system became centralized, and after this restructuring, all institutions of higher education were designed Higher education as universities. Higher education became spread throughout the country, a centralized system of higher education enrollment was implemented and a central university examination and placement system were implemented. In addition to public universities, Turkey's first non-profit institutional university began offering education to students in 1986.
Since 2012, compulsory education in Turkey lasts for 12 years and is divided into three stages (pre-primary, primary and secondary primary).
pre-primary education:
Education that includes children in the age group from 3 to 5 years who have not reached the age of compulsory primary education. It is optional.
Primary education:
It is intended for the education and training of children between the ages of 6 and 10 years. Primary education is compulsory for all citizens. It is free in public schools and lasts for four years (first, second, third and fourth grades).
high school:
It includes the education and training of children from 10 to 14 years old. Basic secondary education is compulsory for all citizens. It is free in public schools and lasts for four years (5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades). Before completing basic secondary education, students are informed of which general secondary schools, vocational high schools and technical secondary schools will be obtained at the end of secondary education.
It includes public or secondary vocational and/or technical secondary schools that provide four-year education for children aged 14 to 17 (9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades). Secondary education is compulsory for all citizens and free in public schools.
